Abdul Samad, on Tuesday (April 1), came up with a brilliant cameo with the bat to power Lucknow Super Giants to a competitive total in the ongoing game against Punjab Kings at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Asked to bat first, LSG were off to a disastrous start as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay and found themselves reeling at 35/3. Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Rishabh Pant returned to the pavilion inside the first five overs of the match.

Badoni, Pooran, and Samad take LSG to 171 runs

Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran then steadied the ship, and just when the latter was getting into his groove, he was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal. Pooran departed after scoring 44 runs and sharing a 54-run stand with Badoni for the fourth wicket.

Veteran batsman David Miller got the start as well, but could not capitalise on it as he departed for 19 runs. Badoni was well set, but he was struggling to play the big shots.

Abdul Samad plays an outrageous shot:

LSG were reeling at 119/5 in the 16th over when Abdul Samad joined Badoni in the middle. Even the 150-run mark was looking tough at that stage before the right-handed batsman gave the LSG innings a much-needed impetus by hitting a flurry of boundaries.

On the very first ball he faced in the match, Abdul Samad hit Marco Janse for a six. In the 18th over, he took Arshdeep Singh to the cleaners, smashing him for two fours and a six to race away to 23 runs from just 7 balls. The Jammu and Kashmir star was eventually out for 27 runs off 12 balls.

Thanks to his knock, LSG managed to post a competitive total of 171/7 in 20 overs. During his brief stay at the crease, the former Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman also played an outrageous shot to hit Arshdeep for a four.

On the fourth ball of the 18th over, the Indian pacer bowled a low full-toss outside the off stump, and Samad managed to scoop it over the wicketkeeper for four runs.
