The Ekana Stadium witnessed far more than cricketing drama on Monday (May 19) night, as an electrifying IPL 2025 clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad ended in a sensational off-field controversy between Digvesh Rathi and Abhishek Sharma.
While Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered Lucknow Super Giants’ IPL 2025 playoff hopes with a six-wicket win, Digvesh Rathi and Abhishek Sharma made the headlines for their heated argument during and after the match in Lucknow.
The heated confrontation between the LSG spinner and SRH opener escalated so dramatically, it forced the BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla to step in personally.
Digvesh Rathi’s goodbye gesture provokes Abhishek Sharma
All the drama began during SRH’s chase of a mammoth 206 when Abhishek Sharma, cruising on 59 off just 20 balls, fell to Digvesh Rathi, caught in the deep.
Well, Rathi’s “notebook celebration” has become a sensation this season, and he repeated the same celebration again, but this time, not just writing down another scalp in his imaginary diary, but also cheeky goodbye gesture at Abhishek.

This gesture didn’t go down well with Abhishek at all. The SRH opener, who was visibly furious while leaving his crease, turned around and fired back at Rathi as the two young guns exchanged heated words in front of cameras at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.

Tensions boil over again as Abhishek Sharma confronts LSG coach and Digvesh Rathi after match
However, before things could have worsened, the on-field umpires rushed in to separate the duo. But the tension didn’t end there, as the drama flared up again after the match during the customary handshakes. Abhishek could be seen animatedly confronting LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya over the on-field incident.
Moments later, Abhishek and Rathi were again seen involved in a verbal duel until Dahiya finally intervened, asking the Hyderabad opener to walk away.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla plays peacemaker
Later, in a rare post-match intervention, the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla was seen talking separately to both players, trying to pacify them.
Videos and images of Shukla calming things down quickly went viral across social media, with fans jokingly calling him the real “Donald Trump” as the situation was finally brought under control, as both players were later seen smiling and sharing a friendly hug.

Speaking on his heated exchange with Rathi, Abhishek Sharma said after the match, “I spoke to him after the game, and it is all good now.”
LSG vs SRH IPL 2025 Match Highlight
Speaking about the high-octane match at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants put up a strong total but still couldn't beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), as they chased down 206 runs with ease to end LSG’s playoff hopes in IPL 2025 on Monday at their home.
Batting first, LSG got off to a dream start. Mitchell Marsh smashed 65, and Aiden Markram added 61 as the duo stitched together a superb 115-run opening stand. Nicholas Pooran came in and provided fireworks with a quick 45, but captain Rishabh Pant once again flopped, scoring just 7.
However, LSG ended up posting an impressive 205/7 on the board in their 20 overs against the SRH. In response, Hyderabad came out all guns blazing against the Lucknow team.
Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a fiery fifty. Heinrich Klaasen continued the assault with a powerful 47, while Ishan Kishan and Kamindu Mendis chipped in with 35 and 32 runs, respectively, as SRH chased down the target in 18.2 overs against the LSG.
