Abhishek Sharma was involved in an unusual incident after India completed a 3-0 T20I series win over Afghanistan in Delhi on Thursday, September 17. A fan girl attempted to get through the security personnel at the team hotel while calling out to the India opener for a photograph.
The incident came after Abhishek had produced one of the most explosive T20I innings of his career, smashing 108 off just 34 balls in the third T20I. The left-hander's stunning century helped India post 221/7 before they bowled Afghanistan out for 94 to seal a 127-run victory.
Abhishek Sharma equals Virat Kohli's all-time T20 record
Abhishek's latest century also took him to 10 hundreds in T20 cricket, putting him level with Virat Kohli for the most T20 centuries among Indian batters. KL Rahul, Sanju Samson and Rohit Sharma are next on the list with eight centuries each.
His 108-run knock against Afghanistan was particularly significant because Abhishek reached his century from just 30 balls. That made it the fastest T20I hundred by a batter from a Full Member nation, moving ahead of the previous 33-ball marks held by Sikandar Raza and Finn Allen. David Miller and Rohit Sharma had previously scored 35-ball hundreds.
Abhishek's innings was also remarkable for the proportion of runs he scored through boundaries. He scored 102 of his 108 runs in boundaries, meaning 94.44 percent of his total came from fours and sixes. That is the highest percentage of boundary runs in a T20I hundred.
The knock also added to Abhishek's remarkable six-hitting numbers. He smashed 11 sixes against Afghanistan, taking his tally for India in a T20I innings behind only his own record of 13 against England in Mumbai in 2025. Rohit Sharma's 10 sixes against Sri Lanka in 2017 and Sanju Samson's 10 against South Africa in 2024 are also among India's best.
Abhishek Sharma has also hit 96 sixes in T20 cricket during 2026, having struck 108 in 2025 and 87 in 2024. His latest century helped India complete a dominant series against Afghanistan.

Following the third T20I, the Indian team returned to its hotel after the memorable victory in Delhi. A fan girl spotted Abhishek Sharma and called out to him while attempting to move past the security personnel to get a photograph.
The security staff intervened and pulled her back as Abhishek Sharma continued walking towards the team. The India opener did not stop and walked away from the situation as the personnel managed the incident in the hotel lobby.
Abhishek has worked on his game as well - Mohammad Kaif
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif also praised Abhishek Sharma for the changes he has made to his batting approach.
He highlighted how the opener has started giving himself a few deliveries before attacking, rather than trying to hit from the very first ball.
"Abhishek has worked on his game as well. If you remember, he used to go to hit shots from the very first ball in the Asia Cup and got out as well.
"Now, he is giving himself three to four balls and then going for his shots. This was a commendable knock, and you will not find such a player again. He is a gift that we need to preserve," he said in a video on his Instagram handle.
