In a massive blow for the Mumbai Indians (MI), the veteran leg-spinner Karn Sharma suffered an injury while fielding in the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Karn Sharma was left bleeding after trying to stop a shot from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opening batsman Abhishek Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 17.
Blow for Mumbai Indians! Karn Sharma gets injured
The 37-year-old leg-spinner Karn Sharma emerged as the top performer for Mumbai Indians in their previous match of the IPL 2025 against the Delhi Capitals.
He was introduced as the Impact Player in the second innings, and he made an exceptional impact as he returned with the figures of 3/36. Karn Sharma dismissed Abishek Porel, Tristan Stubbs, and KL Rahul to play a key role in the Mumbai Indians' win and clinch the Player of the Match award.
However, so far he has not been able to bowl in the ongoing match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) because he picked up an injury in the 3rd over of the match.
On the 5th ball of the over, Deepak Chahar bowled a length delivery to Abhishek Sharma, who advanced and smashed the ball towards mid-wicket. Karn Sharma, who was fielding there, stopped the ball and in the process suffered an injury to his hand.
He looked in immense pain after getting injured and was seen bleeding from his hands. The leg-spinner instantly walked off the field, and Aakash Chopra on-air said that the bowler had split his webbing.

They are all threats - MI stars on SRH
Speaking ahead of the match to the broadcasters, the Mumbai Indians opening batsman Ryan Rickelton said that he is trying his very best to adapt to the Indian conditions. He said:
"[Adapting to Indian conditions] Trying to work it out. It's my first time in India and first IPL as well. Trying to adjust my game according to every surface. Every venue has it's own characteristics. You are not just trying to get caught up in templates and one size. Learning along the way, feeling good out there in the middle. Hopefully I can convert my starts into something substantial.
"I have my templates and we have such good batters around me as well so you're trying to not just conform what the team wants but you also need to do whatever has made you successful in the past. I saw something Aiden Markram did. They picked him based on his templates and what he offers and I think it's important not just stray too far away from that."
While talking about Team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Ryan Rickelton said that they have got a dangerous line-up. He said:
"[Threats in SRH lineup] They are all threats, aren't they? Every team here is so unique and so strong. SRH is one of those teams with the ball and with the bat. So you know I prepared accordingly. I have watched a lot of footage, spent time analysing the guys just to see what they do and try counter where I think they're gonna come at me. I'm looking forward to getting out here back at the Wankhede tonight. If I can just try and keep my emotions in check and my head steady, hopefully things can work out."
