Australia’s Women’s team all-rounder Alana King was involved in a bizarre turn of events when she smacked a six off South African pacer Masabata Klaas’ full toss before smashing her own bat to the stumps during the follow-through. The moment added a bit of fun within the Aussie dugout as the players were seen laughing with captain Alyssa Healy also being one of them.
Alana King had arrived in the middle to bat alongside star performer from the Australian camp Beth Mooney after the fall of the 7th wicket – Georgia Wareham who departed after a soft dismissal from Nadine De Klerk for just 1 run 0ff 5 deliveries.
This incident occurred during the last ball of the 48th over of the 1st innings in the final ODI of a 3-match series between the two cricketing giants. The series is currently level at 1-1 at the moment as the South Africans responded pretty well in the 2nd ODI after losing the 1st one by 8 wickets at the Adelaide Oval.
In that match, Alyssa Healy had won the toss and asked Laura Woolvardt’s side to come on and bat first. The visitors never got off to the type of start they had expected, losing their entire top order for just 34 runs at the turn of the 13th over.
Woolvardt departed for just 1 while Tazmin Brits, Anneke Bosch, and Sune Luus joined their skipper for scores of 1, 0, and 6 respectively. The wicket-falling spree continued as Chloe Tryon, Nadine De Klerk, Sinalo Jafta, Nonkululeko Mlaba, and Ayabonga Khaka all departed cheaply.
Their only notable performer was all-rounder Marizanne Kapp who scored a decent 50 off 58 but unfortunately, she had to walk off from the middle after getting retired hurt. As a result, the Proteas could only post 106 as the target which the Aussies chased down by the 20th over by losing just 2 wickets with Beth Mooney scoring 52 runs.
In the following ODI at the North Sydney Oval, South Africa responded strongly and posted 230 as the target on the back of another notable innings of 75 from Marizanne Kapp. It was a rain-marred contest being reduced to 45 overs and Alyssa Healy’s side were bundled out for just 149 as Kapp shone with the ball as well, picking 3 wickets by leaking 12 runs off her 5 overs.
And now coming back to the ongoing series-deciding contest at the same venue, Alyssa Healy elected to bat first in what is proving to be yet another rain-marred contest. Healy’s bat performed for the first time in this bat as she scored 60 off 73 before Beth Mooney took over and smacked 82 while Tahlia McGrath also contributed with a quickfire 44 off 35.

It was later on in the 1st innings that Alana King would hit the wickets after converting a full toss to a 6. Howver, she was not out as the delivery was declared no-ball. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) have expressed themselves and assembled to appreciate the powerful stroke from Alana King’s bat.
Nonetheless, Australia have posted 278 as the target and South Africa are performing the way they did in the 1st ODI, losing their first 4 wickets for just 63 runs with the game being delayed due to rain.
