Rohit did not have a very stunning start to his international comeback, as he was dismissed for just 8 runs in the very first over of the game. After Rohit retired from the Test format, he has kept his hopes aligned to the 50-over format and is preparing to star in the ICC World Cup 2027, which will be held in South Africa.
After his early dismissal, he was seen clarifying something to the Indian head coach in the Perth dressing room. Gautam Gambhir was seen seated alongside Sitanshu Kotak, and Sharma was seen explaining, pointing at something, and making different gestures with his hand.
The skipper was probably attempting to clear his stance, since Gambhir had previously mentioned that lack of performance might prove costly for any player in the initial XI.

Rohit, the opening batter, was seen alongside captain Gill planning some strategy, who was seeking guidance from the senior pro after both batters were dismissed. The two were seen engaging in a conversation, which raised speculations over an approaching end to his career.
Shubman Gill has been in a constant chat with Rohit ever since the openers got dismissed before rain interrupted play. The special bonding indicates the former captain's desperation to stay with the Indian team and hang onto his position within the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been kept on the side as a backup for the former Indian skipper. Hence, the Indian team might not have multiple opportunities to cling to the Indian team.

Rohit Sharma has been showing exceptional form throughout his international career, as he has played for the Indian side across all three formats of the game. Rohit Sharma stepped onto Perth in the first ODI against Australia, which marked his 500th international appearance.
He joins an elite list of cricketers, including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and the great Sachin Tendulkar, who have played over 500 games across all formats of the game.
The batter was dismissed for just 8 runs on his 500th appearance. He has retired from the two other formats of international cricket and only continues to play the One-day format.
