Ajaz Patel has done it again, as the left-arm spinner bowled Washington Sundar out to seal a historic whitewash for New Zealand against India on Indian soil.
With his teammates rushing in to celebrate the historic Test series victory in India, Ajaz Patel delivered a perfectly tossed-up delivery that landed just outside off stump. Sundar misjudged the ball completely while attempting a slog sweep, and the ball spun back in sharply to shatter the stumps.

After winning the Test series 3-0 in India, New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell said: “It's seriously special, first of all to win a Test match here at this historic ground, but also to win a series 3-0. It's something you dream of. To come over here and actually achieve it is pretty special against a world-class Indian team. We're just a bunch of Kiwis taking on the world.”
Ajaz Patel's spin magic help New Zealand scripts history in India
Meanwhile, chasing 147 runs for victory, India was bowled out for 121 during the afternoon session, with Ajaz Patel delivering a stellar performance, taking 6 wickets for 57 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. The Indian team faced a potential disaster early in their innings, collapsing to 29 for 5.
However, a fiery half-century from Pant provided a glimmer of hope. The left-handed batter scored 64 runs, but his dismissal shortly after lunch shifted the momentum firmly back to New Zealand. This crucial wicket left India in a precarious position at 106/7.
And then the hosts could only muster 15 more runs before losing their final three wickets, with Patel sealing the victory and finishing the match with impressive figures of 11 wickets for 160 runs. Earlier, New Zealand began the day at 171/9 but managed to add just three runs before Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Patel, finishing with figures of 5/55 and match with 10/120.
Very ecstatic: Tom Latham on New Zealand's historic Test series win
Notably, it was Tom Latham’s first assignment as New Zealand's Test captain, and his team has achieved what was deemed almost impossible on Indian soil.
Latham said after the remarkable series sweep, “Very ecstatic. Looking back at the start of the series to now be in this position, the boys have done a fantastic job over the last three Test matches. We spoke about it, and after every Test match, it was trying to back it up. To finally do it here in Mumbai on a completely different surface, one that challenged us certainly with bat and ball, we are pretty happy.”
