The 28-year-old India National Cricket Team pacer Akash Deep continued his magical performance with the ball on Day 5 of the second Test match against the England National Cricket Team.
The fifth and final day of the second Test of the five-match series between India and England is currently underway at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, July 6.
Akash Deep removes Ollie Pope and Harry Brook
On the first ball of the 20th over, Akash Deep got rid of the star England batter Ollie Pope with a brilliant delivery. He bowled a back-of-a-length delivery around off-stump to Pope, and the England batter pushed forward to defend.
However, the ball beat Pope's bat and hit him on the back of the elbow before rolling onto the stumps. Akash Deep leaped and roared in delight after dismissing Pope for 24 runs. Also, it was the third time Akash dismissed Pope in 20 balls in Test cricket.
The Bengal pacer then provided India with another colossal breakthrough by dismissing Harry Brook in the 22nd over. Akash bowled a sensational nip-backer that stunned the England batter and went on to hit him on the back leg.
The on-field umpire instantly raised his finger, prompting Akash to celebrate wildly with his teammates. Harry Brook, however, wasn't satisfied with the umpire's decision and took a review, only to burn it and walk back with 23 runs in his bag.

Deep has got really pronounced movement - Kumar Sangakkara
Speaking on Sky Sports after Pope's wicket, Kumar Sangakkara lauded Akash for using angles really well. He stated:
"Perhaps this is the right end for Deep! He is accurate, skiddy and rushed Pope a little with extra bounce. Deep has got really pronounced movement, used angles well. There is just something about his release that is so effective."
Also, the Bengal pacer Akash Deep proved Ravi Shastri wrong as the former India head coach had questioned his introduction on Day 5 before Mohammed Siraj.
“I can’t believe that the senior-most bowler, the man who has taken the maximum number of wickets in this game, is not bowling,” Shastri said on air.
“Mohammed Siraj, six in the first innings, one in the second. He’s watching from mid-on as his junior partners are bowling. He’d be hoping they strike, otherwise he would be itching to get the ball," he said.
Ravi Shastri also advised India to be ultra-aggressive with the ball on the final day. He said:
"The ball is only 17 overs old so you can afford to attack for the next 10-12 overs. Perhaps gets another slip in? Conditions will get easier for batting and it is a good challenge for England to bat against their usual style of play. The right mix will be normal cricket without taking extra risks."
