Rohit Sharma, on Tuesday (October 1), led Team India to a brilliant 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.
Even though no action took place for more than two days of the Test, India managed to beat Bangladesh to clean sweep the two-match series. On the fifth and final day, Bangladesh started the proceedings with the bat. They were on 26/2 at the start of the day and lost the wicket of Mominul Haque in the third over.
Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then shared a 50-plus stand for the fourth wicket. At that time, it looked like Bangladesh could give India a run for their money. However, once Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Shanto, the floodgates opened.
From 91/3, Bangladesh were reduced to 94/7. A handy knock of 37 runs from Mushfiqur Rahim then helped Bangladesh post a respectable total of 146 runs. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jadeja picked up three wickets each for the home side.
Set a target of 95 runs, Team India lost two wickets before crossing the finishing line in the 18th over. After Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6) departed cheaply, Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) scored a fifty and shared a 58-run stand with Virat Kohli (29*). After Gill's departure, Kohli and Rishabh Pant took India home.
Rohit Sharma's brilliant gesture:
Following the thumping win, Rohit Sharma came up with a brilliant gesture for Akash Deep. Continuing Team India's long-standing tradition during the post-match celebration, the captain handed the trophy to the newcomer. Rohit received the trophy from BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla before handing it to Akash Deep.
In recent years, the Indian captains have made it a habit of handing the trophy after a series win to the newcomer or the youngest member of the team.

Akas Deep made his Test debut during the England series earlier this year and hit the ground running in international cricket. He picked up three wickets on his debut before playing a key role in the latest series win. In two Tests against Bangladesh, the right-arm pacer picked up five wickets.
With the Test series done and dusted, India and Bangladesh will now lock horns against each other in a three-match T20I series. The series is scheduled to start on October 6.
