Akash Singh shines on LSG debut

The left-arm pacer Akash Singh got his LSG debut cap ahead of the match against the Punjab Kings. He replaced leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi in the playing XI.

Before playing the ongoing match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Punjab Kings, Akash Singh featured in seven matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals across 2021 and 2023.

Meanwhile, Akash opened the bowling for LSG against the explosive PBKS openers and got the breakthrough on the 5th ball of the over.

Akash bowled a length delivery wide outside off-stump to left-handed batter Priyansh Arya, who looked to punch it on the up and only managed to get an edge.

The ball went flying towards the deep third, where Mayank Yadav completed a simple catch. Akash was delighted after dismissing Priyansh Arya for 4-ball 1, and he pulled off a cold 'I'm here' celebration after his first wicket in the LSG jersey.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer said that the message in the PBKS camp is to be in high spirits and motivate each other. He elaborated:

"It was under the sheets and you know the moisture it adopts to. The grass is thicker. I don't want to predict how the wicket is going to be. We are up for the competition. You gotta take positives from the game. You can't dwell on how bad you have done in a particular game.

"It haunts you every now and then. We need to be in high spirits and keep motivating each other and see to it that we are enjoying each other's success. That's the culture and camaraderie in the team. Just keeping things simple. I know it is tough but that's the mantra. Stoinis comes in."
