The Ashes rivals Australia and England, who are currently up against each other in their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Australian skipper Steve Smith won the toss and invited Jos Buttler and his team to bat first at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Well, the England National Cricket Team didn’t have a good start as their struggles continued in ODI cricket. Coming into the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after a 3-0 whitewash and 4-1 T20I series loss to India, the Three Lions faced their first setback in the form of Phil Salt in the second over.
Watch: Alex Carey’s stunning catch sends Phil Salt packing in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash
Australia’s left-arm speedster Ben Dwarshuis sent Phil Salt back to the pavilion after scoring only 10 runs off 6 balls in the fourth match of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It was a full delivery at 130.5 kph from Dwarshuis, targeting the leg stump.
Salt shuffled slightly leg-side, looking to whip it over wide mid-on. However, Salt made solid contact, expecting it to race away for a boundary. But Alex Carey, who was stationed at mid-on, had other plans. He flew to his right and pulled off an unbelievable one-handed grab in the air.
Alex Carey's breathtaking one-handed stunner has ensured Salt walking back to the pavilion without causing any damage at the top in Lahore.

Jamie Smith flops as Ben Dwarshuis and Alex Carey get second wicket for Australia
Meanwhile, Australia continues to dominate as Ben Dwarshuis picks up his second wicket in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against England. This time, it’s Jamie Smith who has to make the long walk back after a mistimed shot against Dwarshuis, and yet again, Alex Carey caught the Englishman.
Dwarshuis bowled a delivery at 129.8 kph, fuller than a length on leg and middle, and Smith stepped forward, attempting an aerial drive, but failed to get the required elevation. And the ball traveled straight into the safe hands of Alex Carey at mid-on, as the Aussie star took his second wicket.

Smith immediately realized his mistake, as he turned around and walked off even before the ball settled in Carey’s hands. He returned to the pavilion after making 15 runs off 13 balls, including three boundaries against Australia, as England found itself in a spot of bother in Lahore.
We are not trying to hide anything: Jos Buttler
Before the start of the match, England captain Jos Buttler said that they got the opportunity to bat first as they wanted due to the dew factor in Lahore. However, English batters are not living up to the captain’s expectations in the ongoing CT 2025 clash against Australia.
Jos Buttler said at the toss, “Looks like a really good surface; look to try and make good first use of it. We are not trying to hide anything; we are very confident. We are really excited for the game, and the guys are in a really good place. Anytime you play Australia in an ICC event, you want to be part of it. Jamie Smith is very unflappable, an immense talent with a great head on his shoulders. Gives us a chance to have a dynamic top three and some good guys behind him.”
