Southern Brave wicketkeeper Alex Davies took a spectacular diving catch during the match against the Trent Rockets in The Hundred Men's Competition 2024. Alex Davies took the catch to dismiss Trent Rockets batter Joe Root in the 24th match of the ongoing 100-ball franchise tournament in England.
The Trent Rockets opted to bowl first after winning the toss at Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton on Saturday, August 10. Tom Banton and Adam Lyth added a 46-run partnership off 29 balls. Danny Briggs provided an early breakthrough for his team by dismissing Banton, who scored 30 runs off 17 balls.
Left-arm spin bowler Akeal Hosein dismissed Lyth on the 32nd ball of the Trent Rockets' innings. Alex Hales and Joe Root added 26 runs off 20 balls for the third wicket. Hales scored 15 runs off 13 balls, including two boundaries. Jofra Archer got rid of Joe Root on the 62nd ball in the first innings of the match.

Jofra Archer dismissed Joe Root after being hit for a four off the previous delivery. The right-arm fast bowler bowled a leg cutter, and Root edged the ball. Davies took a spectacular one-handed diving catch to his right to complete the dismissal. Archer completed the revenge after being hit for a boundary.

Joe Root scored 16 off 12 balls before being dismissed, leaving the Trent Rockets at 81/4 after 62 balls. The team ended their innings with 126 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 100 balls. Rovman Powell (16 off 14) and Lewis Gregory (19 off 17) failed to help the team reach a respectable total.
Jofra Archer Takes Two Wickets For 18 Runs
For the Southern Brave, Danny Briggs conceded 16 runs in 20 balls and took key wickets of Alex Hales and Tom Banton. Jofra Archer also delivered an impressive performance with the ball, conceding 18 runs and taking two wickets. Akeal Hosein was less economical, giving up 31 runs in 20 balls for one wicket.
Alex Davies scored 28 runs off 19 balls, including four boundaries and a six. Skipper James Vince amassed 28 runs off 26 balls with the help of two boundaries. However, they lost regular wickets, leaving them at 78-6 in 76 balls. The Southern Brave team needed 49 runs off the last 20 balls to secure victory.
Kieron Pollard dazzled with five consecutive sixes against Rashid Khan, one of the best bowlers in T20 cricket. Pollard scored 45 runs off 23 balls, including two fours and five sixes. He helped the Southern Brave win by two wickets with one ball to spare. Pollard was named 'Hero of the Match' for his knock in the chase.
