The Australia National Cricket Team kicked off their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a 39-run win over Oman in the 10th group game on Thursday, June 6, at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
However, the Oman team gave a tough fight to the 2021 T20 World Cup champions in the game. David Warner and Marcus Stoinis’ stunning fifties helped the Australian cricket team post a respectable total of 164/5 in their opening game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 against Oman in Barbados.
Mehran Khan was the standout bowling performer for Oman, with impressive figures of 2/38 in his four overs against Australia. Kaleemullah and Bilal Khan also scalped a piece each.
Glenn Maxwell falls for golden duck but Australia secures win over Oman
Chasing the target, the Oman cricket team had a really poor start, and the Australians didn’t allow them to form any partnership, resulting in them falling 39 runs short of the target in the T20 World Cup 2024 game on Thursday.
Ayan Khan was the top scorer for Oman with 36 runs against Australia. However, Australia’s swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s horrific form continues in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after a poor IPL 2024 season with the RCB.
Maxwell was out for a golden duck, and Oman captain Aqib Ilyas stole the show with his mind-blowing fielding in the thrilling match against Australia in Barbados. Maxwell had a forgettable start to his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, getting dismissed for a golden duck by Oman's Mehran Khan during their group-stage match.
The incident took place during the ninth over of Australia's innings, shortly after Oman had taken the crucial wicket of Australian captain and star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who was dismissed for 14 runs off 21 balls in Barbados.
Then, Maxwell, coming in at number four, looked in a hurry and threw away his wicket to only let the Kangaroos down. Mehran Khan, on his third ball of the over, delivered a full-length ball, tempting Maxwell to go for a lofted shot and losing his wicket.

Maxwell, aiming to score his first run through the offside, hit the ball in the air. However, Oman's captain, Aqib Ilyas Sulehri, brought out the iconic moment of the T20 World Cup 2024 by displaying remarkable athleticism and grabbing an amazing catch to ensure Maxwell’s exit for a golden duck.
Ilyas was stationed at the extra cover, flew parallel to the surface, and grabbed the stunner with both hands to remove Maxwell for Golden Duck. However, Maxwell’s poor outing didn’t have any impact on Australia’s result, with the bowlers wreaking havoc on the Oman batters in the game.
Stoinis’ three-wicket haul helped Australia restrict Oman to 125 to win their opening game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa each also snared two wickets to play their part in the Kangaroos’ thrilling win over Oman in Barbados.
