Team India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has apologized to New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell following a tense moment in the T20 World Cup 2026 final. A frustrated Arshdeep threw the ball at Mitchell while bowling during the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.

India sealed a 96-run victory over New Zealand to end the tournament on a high note. The Men in Blue secured their third T20 World Cup win, surpassing England and the West Indies, who have two titles each. India also became the first side to defend a T20 World Cup and the first host nation to lift the trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav Steps In To Calm Things Down Between Arshdeep Singh And Daryl Mitchell

Dary Mitchell hit Arshdeep Singh for two straight sixes in the 11th over. On the penultimate ball, the left-arm pacer bowled a wide yorker. Mitchell squeezed the delivery back to the bowler, but Arshdeep threw the ball back towards the stumps. However, Mitchell was hit, which led to a heated exchange.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav intervened to calm Mitchell down after the fiery throw. The on-field umpire Richard Illingworth also had a long chat with Arshdeep regarding his on-field behaviour. After the over finished, the young fast bowler realized his mistake and offered a quick apology to the Black Caps batter.

Arshdeep conceded 32 runs in his four overs, while Mitchell scored just 17 runs. The pacer might face a fine on his match fee and receive a demerit point for his actions. Arshdeep faced controversy in the 2025 Asia Cup against Pakistan but was cleared by the match referee without any sanctions.

Arshdeep Apologizes to Daryl Mitchell After T20 World Cup 2026 Final

After India secured a massive 96-run victory to lift their third T20 World Cup title, Arshdeep apologized to Mitchell. The two players shared a laugh and a handshake, with Arshdeep acknowledging that they would still have to face the match referee's verdict.

"I know I can apologize as much as I can, but I am very sorry, bro. Still, we will see the match referee now, bro," Arshdeep told Mitchell.

My Throw Reverse-Swung A Bit Too Much - Arshdeep Singh

Speaking to Harsha Bhogle after the win, Arshdeep Singh spoke about the heated incident with Daryl Mitchell. The left-arm pacer stated that the ball reverse swung too much, insisting there was no malicious intent behind hitting the batter.

“Nothing much, I just went to say sorry to Mitchell. My throw reverse-swung a bit too much and it hit his body, so I told him that I didn’t hit him intentionally," Singh said.

"I don’t really know what the emotion feels like right now, sir. At the moment it feels good because we’re winning, but in two or four days we’ll know when the emotions sink in how it actually feels. And it’s a fantastic team. There are match-winners everywhere in this team, so there was belief from the start that we would perform well, and the result is that's just the topping on the cake."
