Marco Jansen bags a golden duck
After choosing to bat first in the match, South Africa posted a good total of 315/6 on the board. Ryan Rickelton hit an exceptional century and didn't let his team miss Heinrich Klaasen, who was ruled out of the match due to an injury.
Rickelton showcased a batting masterclass and finished his innings with a score of 103 runs off 106 balls, with 7 fours and 1 six. Other than him, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram hit brilliant fifties for the Proteas.
The one player whom South African team management would have expected to play quickfire innings while batting lower down the order would have been Marco Jansen.
However, the all-rounder disappointed his team as he walked back to the hut without opening his account. On the second ball of the 49th over, Azmatullah Omarzai bowled a 136kmph ball to Marco Jansen, who stood tall and tried to hit it over mid-on but missed his shot.
Marco Jansen left a big gap between his bat and pad, and the ball went on to uproot the leg-stump, giving a delight to Azmatullah Omarzai, who finished with the figures of 39/1 in his 6 overs.

What happened in Afghanistan's previous ODI match?
Afghanistan's previous ODI match was against Zimbabwe on December 21, 2024. They continued their dominance over the Chevrons in that game and bagged an eight-wicket victory in the third ODI in Harare to wrap up the series 2-0 after the first match was washed out.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Afghanistan bowlers put on a dominant performance. The star of the match was spinner AM Ghazanfar, who ran through Zimbabwe’s lineup with a stunning five-wicket haul (5/33).
Rashid Khan provided him with excellent support, claiming 3/38, while Azmatullah Omarzai and Fareed Ahmad chipped in with a wicket each.
Zimbabwe struggled from the very start and Sean Williams was the lone warrior for them, scoring a good 60 off 61 balls, but his efforts couldn't prevent Zimbabwe from being bowled out for 127 in just 30.1 overs.
Chasing the target, Afghanistan started cautiously. Sediqullah Atal soon found his rhythm and hit 52 off 50 balls, including four fours and two sixes. He received good support from Abdul Malik, who played a knock of 29.
After the duo got out, Hashmatullah Shahidi (20*) and Rahmat Shah (17*) joined forces to steer their team to a comfortable victory as they reached the target in 26.5 overs with 139balls to spare.
