Former Pakistan captain and the country’s star batter Babar Azam produced a hilarious moment in the middle of intense competition between the Rangpur Riders and Durdanto Dhaka in match number 21 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2024. Azam was seen running after the ball which deflected off him for an overthrow at the striker’s end.

Instead of thinking about using the opportunity to add another run for his team, Babar Azam chose to run after the ball to create a light-hearted moment for the fans and also add an element of fun for the cameras. The video is now going viral all over social media and it has received a mixed reaction from the fans.

While one fan felt that Babar was having some fun, another fan flashbacked the gully cricket days when the batter had to fetch the ball himself after hitting it quite far.

There was a fan who took a dig at Babar by claiming that he is practicing how to field for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA & West Indies.

As his actions are being loved as well as trolled by the fans, Babar Azam missed out on a half-century by just 3 runs. But the strangest part is that his 47 came off 43 balls. Now that’s some sort of Test cricket batting in T20s. Babar would first stand for a 67-run stand with fellow opener Rony Talukdar before receiving his marching orders in the 15th over by Mosaddek Hossain.

The 29-year-old had an underwhelming strike rate of 109. Nonetheless, Rangpur Riders would then go on to set up 176 as the target, following the accelerated knocks from Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan, and Mohammad Nabi.

In response, the capital outfit were folded for just 115 in 18 overs with opening batter Mohammad Naim ending up as their best scorer for 44 off 31, which is still faster than the knock of Babar. Rangpur Riders claimed the victory a few moments ago by 60 runs at Mirpur and they have moved atop of the BPL table with 10 points to their name.

The Riders still have 5 more games to play in the league stages and the way they have been performing in this edition, it won’t be shocking to see them finish in the top 2 positions.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam along with his Pakistani teammates who are representing various franchises in the BPL and ILT20, are expected to head back home by next week in order to take part in the 9th edition of Pakistan Super League. The tournament is slated to start from February 17th onwards with reigning champions Lahore Qalandars taking on Islamabad United in the opening match.

Babar Azam will be in PSL action a day later for the Peshawar Zalmi in match number 2 against Quetta Gladiators.
