Star Pakistan batter Babar Azam registered back-to-back failures during the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Babar was dismissed for 22 runs off 50 deliveries by Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana on the fifth day of the series opener in Rawalpindi.

The 29-year-old batter's poor form with the bat has continued in red-ball cricket. The right-handed batter was dismissed for a duck in the first innings off Shoriful Islam.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das took a brilliant diving catch down the leg side to dismiss the star Pakistan batter in the first innings.

Babar Azam was bowled by Nahid Rana after an inside edge rattled the stumps. Babar got a reprieve on the first ball after Litton Das dropped a straightforward catch.

However, the Pakistan batter failed to make the most of the opportunity and added 22 runs before walking back to the dressing room.

Pakistan are in trouble in the first session of the final day during the first Test match against Bangladesh. The home team lost the wicket of in-form batter Saud Shakeel in the following over. They collapsed to 67/4 in 27 overs during their final outing with the bat in the Rawalpindi Test.

At the time of writing, the Shan Masood-led team was at 106/3 after 36 overs. The home team is still trailing by 11 runs in their second innings. The visitors is on the verge of securing victory in the match. They want to remove the last four wickets and chase down a low target to win.

Babar Azam Needs To Show More Positive Intent - Ramiz Raja

Speaking on his YouTube channel after Day 1, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja criticized Babar for lacking intent at the crease. Ramiz suggested that Babar should adopt a more positive approach and spend more time in the middle.

"Babar Azam is not scoring runs in Test cricket. He needs to show more positive intent because he is a great batter. He needs to try and not play everything from his crease. Instead try and be positive with the stride and spend time in the middle. Because he does not have any technical flaw and this dismissal being strangled down leg was a wierd one," Ramiz said.

The hosts spent most of Day 4 on the field. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a 196-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Rahim fell just short of a double century as he was dismissed for 191 runs. The Bangladesh team ended up with a significant lead of 117 runs.
