Although the Pakistan team did not perform up to expectations in ICC World Cup 2023, their skipper Babar Azam received a warm welcome from fans. As the Pakistan team returned home, fans greeted Babar Azam at the airport and also clicked selfies with them.

Babar Azam could not give his best in ICC World Cup 2023. The right-handed batsman mustered 320 runs in 9 games averaging 40.0. At a strike rate of 82, Azam slammed 4 half-centuries in the tournament but failed to convert them into a century in any match.

Meanwhile, many former Pakistan cricketers criticized Babar Azam for his average batting and poor captaincy in ICC World Cup 2023. Pakistan could only win 4 games and lost 5 out of 9. With 8 points, they finished in the 5th spot in the points table and failed to reach the semi-finals.

Moreover, Pakistan faced the wrath of fans when they suffered a shocking defeat to Afghanistan by 8 wickets. After winning the first two games, Pakistan lost four back-to-back matches against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

Pakistan had a chance to qualify for the semi-finals after winning their last two games with good margins. However, they allowed New Zealand to post 400-plus total in the penultimate match. Pakistan did win the match but could not benefit from the net run rate.

In their final game, they had to outplay England by 300-plus odd runs to qualify for the semi-finals. However, the men-in-green lost the match by 93 runs. For Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan emerged as the leading run-getter for the side, with 395 runs in 8 innings. Among bowlers, Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed the most 18 wickets for the team.
