Pakistan batting star Babar Azam, on Wednesday (December 6), left the fans stunned with his antics at the non-striker’s end during the ongoing warm-up game between Pakistan and Prime Ministers XI in Canberra.
The former Pakistan captain came out to bat in the 25th over of the innings after Mark Steketee dismissed opener Abdullah Shafique for 38. Babar Azam got going with a brilliant cover drive before doing something completely unexpected although highly amusing.
In the 37th over of the game, Babar Azam hilariously tried to collect the ball at the non-striker’s end after it was hit by his partner Shan Masood. On the second ball of the over, the Pakistan captain played a straight drive off a delivery bowled by Beau Webster. And as the ball was going past Babar Azam, he tried to collect it using his hands but failed.
Cricket Australia posted the clip on X with the caption: “Babar Azam keeping himself in the game at the non-striker’s end…. “

Meanwhile, the upcoming Test series against Australia will be Babar Azam’s first assignment since he stepped down as the captain. The star batsman stepped down as the captain in all three formats after being heavily criticized for his team’s poor display in the ODI World Cup where they failed to qualify for the semifinals.
He has been replaced by Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi as the Test and T20I captains respectively. Pakistan will be hoping that their star batsman performs well and help them improve their Test record in Australia. They have been whitewashed in their last five Test series in Australia and have not won a Test in the country since 1999.
