Pakistan star batter Babar Azam continues to enjoy immense fan support despite missing out on the national cricket team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. A fan breached security during an exhibition match in Pakistan and chased Babar onto the field before hugging and kissing the star batter.

Babar scored 41 runs off 23 balls before being dismissed by Saeed Ajmal. He and Yasir Hameed added a 50-run opening partnership, but the rest of the Peshawar Zalmi batting lineup struggled and collapsed. Zalmi were unable to bat their full 20 overs, as they were bowled out for just 144 in 14.4 overs.

Security personnel quickly intervened, separating the fan and removing him from the venue. The incident shows that Babar still has immense fan support, despite being left out of Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE.

Babar Azam Takes Two Wickets With the Ball

Yasir Hameed scored 35 off 18 balls before Abdur Rehman dismissed him. Maaz Sadaqat and Israrullah were dismissed cheaply. Rehman and Mohammad Hafeez troubled the batters, leaving Zalmi struggling at 114-5.

Shahid Afridi then took three wickets, including Azan Afridi (13), Nisar Ali (1), and Imran Jr (golden duck). Afridi and Rehman took three wickets each, while Ajmal and Hafeez grabbed two apiece.

Chasing 145, Legends XI had a shaky start as early wickets fell, collapsing to 6-3 in just three overs. Azhar Ali and Humayun Farhat added a 29-run stand, but they lost five wickets by the seventh over. Babar added further pressure by removing Younis Khan for two.

Inzamam-ul-Haq unleashed powerful strokes to lift the total. Azhar Mahmood and Inzamam added a 50-run partnership that kept the chase alive. They needed 22 from the final over but fell short by six runs, finishing on 138-6.

Inzamam remained unbeaten on 46 off 23 balls, and Mahmood scored 34 off 14. For Zalmi, Irfan Pathan and Babar Azam claimed two wickets each, while Salman and Zulfiqar Babar took one each.

Babar Azam Excluded from Pakistan’s Asia Cup Squad

Babar Azam has been excluded from Pakistan’s Asia Cup squad. Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson said that the batter must work on his strike rate. The former captain has not played T20 internationals since December 2024.

The Pakistan batter has endured a prolonged lean patch. He has played 72 innings across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is without reaching a century. The right-handed batter last reached a triple-figure score against Nepal during the 2023 Asia Cup.

Babar last played for Pakistan during the three-match ODI series in the West Indies, where he managed scores of 47, 0, and 9. He has been under scrutiny following his underwhelming performances.
