England keeper-batter Ben Foakes triggered a spirit of cricket debate on Twitter during the first Test against India. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium In Hyderabad was host to a thriller between the teams.

While the competition between bat and ball was enthralling, an incident took place during the game that raised the eyebrows of many. During the fag end of the Day 4, England keeper Ben Foakes tried to stump out Jasprit Bumrah to wrap up the game quickly.

But that was not the normal stumping as keepers do in the game. Ben Foakes tried to be cheeky because the partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the end was slowly taking away the game from England in the last session of the game.

Jasprit Bumrah tried to dispatch the short ball by Tom Hartley for a big shot. However, he missed the ball completely and was livid with himself. He jumped inside the crease in frustration as he couldn’t put away the freebie from the bowler.

As he jumped, Ben Foakes behind the stumps seized in an opportunity to stump. He immediately dislodged the bails and appealed for the dismissal. However, it didn’t affect India as Jasprit Bumrah put his foot down before the stumps were shattered.

Here’s the video:

The innings didn’t last for long after that as Mohammed Siraj was removed by Tom Hartley and India were bundled out for 202 runs. England won the game by the margin of 28 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Tom Hartley picked 7 wickets with the ball and put India batters under immense pressure. Earlier with the bat, Ollie Pope slammed a brilliant 196 runs to help his team set a target of 231 runs.

India will have a lot of things to work on after an embarrassing defeat on the home soil against the England National Cricket Team. Several former cricketers slammed Rohit Sharma & Co. for playing ordinary cricket on the last two days of the game and letting go of the advantage they had after the first day’s play.

The second Test is set to be played from February 02 to 06, 2024, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. India are also sweating over the availability of the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who suffered a hamstring injury during the last innings of the match while running between the wickets. Currently, there is no official update on Ravindra Jadeja, but if he misses the second game it will indeed be a massive blow for India, who are down 0-1 in the series.
