Mohammed Siraj smashes Ben Stokes on the box

Stokes has been the top performer with the ball in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, but he has not been able to make significant contributions with the bat.

He has not looked comfortable while facing the Indian bowlers and has suffered a few body blows as well. On Day 3 of the Manchester Test, Ben Stokes once again suffered a blow, and this time it was a nasty one.

On the third ball of the 91st over, Mohammed Siraj bowled a back-of-a-length delivery with the second new ball that nipped back in.

The England captain tried to defend, but the ball went past the inside edge and hit him directly on the box. Stokes let out a loud groan as he collapsed on his knees. He was in significant pain, but was seen laughing.

"One thing that I have always wondered is if the physio walks in right now, what would his role be? We'll see if he calls him, but for the moment I must say Ben Stokes is in a lot of pain (laughs)," the former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik said on X.

It looks flat and bleak for India - Ravi Shastri

Speaking on Sky Sports during the Lunch break, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that things are looking bleak for the visitors. He said:

"It looks flat and bleak [for India], because England have had the perfect session. They went about their job in a professional manner; they knew what they had to do, they had to negate Bumrah in the first half an hour of play, deny India a wicket and they you know with the attack India have that things would go flat.

"It's great batting conditions. The sun is out, the pitch has flattened out as well and it's hard work now [for India]. It's a great chance now for England to bat the whole day and bat India out of this contest. What a platform, with the likes of Harry Brook, Jamie Smith, Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse batting at 10, all still to come."

Ravi Shastri also bashed India skipper Shubman Gill for not trusting his spinners more. He said:

"I said on my first commentary stint that Gill has to trust his spinners more. Washington gave him four [second-innings] wickets in the last game. He opened things up for India in the last Test at Lord's.

"He's confident, so give him a go. Spinners like longer spells. On a day like this you'd expect your spinner to accept responsibility, feel acocuntable and to go out there and do a job."
