Stokes, who was looking to anchor the innings, immediately knew he had made a mess of it when his team needed his contribution against India. The frustration was written all over his face. Well, India had placed a silly mid-off to block the classic Stokes off-drive, forcing him into an awkward shot. Siraj, bowling from around the wicket, delivered a perfect-length ball that angled in and then nipped away. Stokes tried to steer it towards the point, but all he managed was a thick edge straight into Rishabh Pant’s gloves behind the stumps.

The timing couldn’t have been better, as Siraj broke the dangerous partnership between Stokes and Harry Brook and England’s momentum. As Stokes walked off for 20 off 52 balls, including three boundaries, the energy in the Indian camp exploded as they knew it was a turning point of the game.

Watch the drama here:

Ben Stokes' struggle against India continues

Ben Stokes has now gone ten innings without scoring a half-century against India. His recent scores against India are 6, 47, 11, 41, 15, 3, 4, 0, 2, and 20 in the ongoing Test. Despite his reputation as a big-match player, the Indians have found a way to keep him quiet with the bat.

Furious India demand ball change on Day 3 at Headingley

Meanwhile, tension flared at Headingley as India’s frustration with the ball reached a boiling point on Day 3 of the first Test, as the bowlers haven’t been able to get the ball to swing much. India captain Shubman Gill and pacer Mohammed Siraj went to the umpire Chris Gaffaney and asked to change the ball because they believed the ball was not behaving the way it should have.

After Gaffaney turned down Gill and Siraj’s request, Jasprit Bumrah was seen relentlessly walking up to the umpire between deliveries, visibly annoyed with the ball. India didn’t want another over with the old ball, but they had to continue. However, Siraj managed to get rid of Stokes with the ball.

Well, Harry Brook already smashed a fifty, and the hosts are currently trailing by just 166 runs against India. The tourists must now break the partnership between Brook and Jamie Smith to be ahead in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy opener at Headingley.
