The 7th of July had been a monumental occasion for Indian cricket as a future great and a retired icon shared their birthdays. Devdutt Padikkal, who has had a meteoric rise in recent times and could don the national colours soon, shares his birthday with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Devdutt Padikkal, currently in Sri Lanka ahead of the white-ball series, wished Dhoni before cutting the cake.
As the Indian team gears up for the limited-overs series, Shikhar Dhawan & co. took some time to celebrate Devdutt Padikkal’s birthday. The southpaw, turning 21, delivered a message on behalf of the tourists before cutting the cake laid on the table. He wished Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who turned 40 on Wednesday, a happy birthday before slicing the cake with a knife.
Devdutt Padikkal remarked that before cutting the cake, he would like to wish MS Dhoni a happy birthday on behalf of the Indian team as he has been a massive inspiration to all the youngsters. The 21-year old highlighted that sharing his birthday with the legend is an honour for him.

Devdutt Padikkal unlikely to feature in the playing eleven for the first ODI:
Meanwhile, Devdutt Padikkal could find himself on the sidelines for the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo on the 13th of July. While the southpaw’s talent is unprecedented, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw are likely to open the innings.
But Padikkal will probably not leave Sri Lanka without playing for India as his international career could start by featuring in the T20Is first. The Karnataka batsman won the emerging player of the year award in IPL 2020, playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and smashed 737 runs in seven years in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy.
