Watch: Catch Of The Century As Wicketkeeper Takes Strangest Catch Of All-Time With His Back

A wicketkeeper came up with a moment of brilliance during a local cricket match as he completed a catch in an unbelievable fashion. The catch has divided the cricketing world with many calling it the greatest-ever catch by a wicketkeeper while some are just calling it a lucky grab.

And while the jury is still out on the catch, not many would disagree that it is one of the strangest and scarcely believable incidents in a cricket match. The incident took place during a match in the Kerala Premier League. The tournament is being played with a tennis ball instead of a regular cricket ball.

The match saw KCSA Calicut locking horns against KPA 123 in the eleventh round of the competition. KPA were well in control of the game as they had KSCA Calicut reeling at 10 for 4. And while KSCA Calicut were hoping to revive their innings, the KPA 123 wicketkeeper came up with something unbelievable.

KSCA batter K. Abhilash was on strike when he edged a delivery behind the stumps. Mamu, the wicketkeeper, dived to his right to take the catch but could not grab the ball. The ball popped out of his hand as soon as he hit the ground and as he was lying on the ground, the ball landed on the middle of his back. The wicketkeeper then did well to ensure that the ball did not fall off his back as he was mobbed by his jubilant teammates.

“Unbelievable scenes the big man behind the stumps, Mamu, he holds the ball with his back, unbelievable catch or unbelievable save or unbelievable scene, what is that? Oh my!” said the commentator.

The video of the catch has gone viral on social media and has triggered different types of reactions. While some have heaped praise on the wicketkeeper for his smartness, some have opined that he should not be awarded the catch because he was not in control.
