Shreyas Iyer was saved by an umpire's blunder in a controversial moment during a Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir. On-field umpire S Ravi made a "not out" call on a delivery that clearly seemed to have been edged by Shreyas Iyer to wicketkeeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan.
Mumbai was dismissed for just 120 runs after choosing to bat first at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai on Thursday. Shardul Thakur was the best batter for Mumbai, scoring a vital 55-run knock. For Jammu and Kashmir, Umar Nazir and Yudhvir Singh were the top bowlers, each taking four wickets.

The incident took place during Mumbai’s second innings in their Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir. Shreyas Iyer, who was on 8 runs, appeared to edge a delivery from Umar Nazir to the wicketkeeper, with a clear sound heard.
However, umpire S Ravi controversially ruled "not out," which led to the frustration of fans on social media. The Decision Review System (DRS) was unavailable in the match, adding controversy over the decision. Iyer stood his ground, and the umpire sided with him, providing a lifeline to the batter.
Fans quickly took to social media to express their frustration, accusing the umpire of favoritism towards Mumbai. They also criticized Iyer for staying at the crease despite knowing he had clearly edged the ball.

Mumbai got off to a solid start in their second innings, with a 50-run opening partnership. However, they quickly lost momentum as Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were dismissed in quick succession.
Hardik Tamore failed to make an impact once again, and Shivam Dube was dismissed for a duck for the second consecutive time. Mumbai was at 86/5 before the lunch break, with Ajinkya Rahane on 12 off 22 balls at the crease.
The Worst Shot in That Innings Was by Shreyas - Basit Ali
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali criticized Iyer for his poor shot selection in the first innings. Iyer scored 11 runs off seven balls, including a boundary and a six, but was caught at mid-on while attempting a big shot off Yudhvir Singh's bowling.
"The worst shot in that innings (Mumbai's Ranji Trophy match) was of Shreyas Iyer. The team lost six wickets and the mid-on was pushed back, but you still hit it right there. The easiest way to dismiss Shreyas Iyer in the Champions Trophy is to have the mid-on back because he is surely going to go for a big hit."
