India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli is back in the team for the second ODI against the England National Cricket Team. The penultimate game of the series between the teams is all set to take place at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

Virat Kohli missed the first game of the series in Nagpur due to a knee injury but has now been deemed fit to join the team. The right-hander walked straight into the XI and replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his debut in the first match but couldn't make a bigger impact.

As India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma at the toss announced that Virat Kohli was back, what caught the attention was the reaction of the crowd. The fans in the stadium went berserk and cheered loudly as they learned about the development.

The energy was very good despite not being on the field for a while - Rohit Sharma on India's performance in first ODI

Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma talked about the performance from the last game, saying that it was a good outing and also lauded the team for their energy. The captain was in awe of knocks by Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill. He explained:

"It was a good performance in the first game. That's what I loved about it. The energy was very good despite not being on the field for a while. It was superb to watch after losing two wickets.

"Shreyas prides himself on that intent and attitude and not to forget the contributions of Shubman and Axar as well. Black soil pitch, not sure. Maybe play on the slower side, that's what I expect. Two changes, Jaiswal makes way for Virat. Kuldeep is rested so Varun makes his debut."

Second ODI against England will be extremely important for both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

The ongoing second ODI against England will be extremely important for both Virat Kohli as well Rohit Sharma. Both the stalwarts of Indian cricket have been under the pump because of their poor performances in the Tests as well as the 50-over cricket.

While Kohli didn't feature in the opening match, Rohit Sharma's torrid run with the bat continued. The India captain scored just 2 runs as got out while attempting to hit a big six but didn't get the proper connection and was caught inside the circle.

Kohli's last ODI outing was against Sri Lanka after the T20 World Cup 2024. The batter failed in all three games of the series, and it will be a crucial innings for him as well as the captain, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner.
