Watch - Dawid Malan's Disastrous Run-Out After Mix-Up With Ben Stokes

England National Cricket Team opening batsman Dawid Malan played a classy innings against the Netherlands National Cricket Team in the 40th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The match between the Jos Buttler-led England and the Scott Edwards-led Netherlands is currently underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday, November 8.

The 36-year-old played really good cricket and was set to register his second ton in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup. However, he wasn’t able to achieve the feat as he got run out in the 22nd over.

On the last ball of the 22nd over, Aryan Dutt bowled a length ball to Malan, which he pushed towards Logan van Beek at cover point and took off for a single. As Dawid was a third of the way down, Stokes sent him back. The opening batsman ran back and put in a dive, but got run out as van Beek fired a good throw.

Malan was back in the dugout after scoring 87 runs off 74 balls, including 10 fours and 2 maximums.

We always try to take the aggressive option – Dawid Malan

Speaking to the broadcasters during the mid-innings break, Dawid Malan said that as a team they always try to play aggressive cricket. Malan also credited Netherlands for bowling well, before praising Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes for pulling things back in the end. Dawid Malan said:

“We always try to take the aggressive option, I just got a few nice half-volleys early on which I was lucky to put away. After that start, we were looking for a really big score and I think Netherlands bowled really well in the middle to restrict us and then Ben Stokes played a fantastic knock with Woaksy to get us to a good score.”

Dawid Malan further said that Ben Stokes soaked the pressure unbelievably and steered England to a good total of 339/9. He said:

“Personally I was like, ‘oh no, not again, hopefully we can get something going’ (at 178/5). But once again Stokesy stood up when needed and got us to a score that we’re really happy with. To be a good international cricketer and to do it for long periods of time, you have to be able to soak up the pressure when it’s needed. He soaks up the pressure unbelievably well and he’s able to transfer the pressure when needed. To be able to do that so consistently over his career is a fantastic trade.”
