Devon Conway gets retired out

Conway opened the innings along with his Kiwi teammate Rachin Ravindra for the Chennai Super Kings and played a really good knock. He provided the CSK with a great start by stitching up a brilliant 61-run stand in 40 balls with Rachin Ravindra.

After that, he was involved in a crucial 89-run partnership in 51 balls with Shivam Dube that kept the Chennai Super Kings in the hunt. However, after the dismissal of Dube, things started to go downhill for the 5-time champions.

Even though Devon Conway was in the middle for a very long time, he was unable to hit boundaries. Hence, after the 5th ball of the 18th over, when MS Dhoni dispatched Lockie Ferguson over long-off for a six, Devon Conway was seen walking back to the hut.

Devon Conway got retired out after scoring 69 runs off 49 balls. His knock was studded with 6 fours and 2 sixes while Ravindra Jadeja came in as the new batter in the middle.

Notably, the CSK opener became the second batsman to get retired out in the Indian Premier League 2025 and overall the 5th batsman in the history of the league.

Unfortunate for us that we didn’t start the way we wanted - Devon Conway

Speaking ahead of the match against the Punjab Kings, Devon Conway expressed disappointment over CSK's inability to start the IPL 2025 campaign on a high. He said:

“Certainly. Unfortunate for us that we didn’t start the way we wanted. The first game, we won quite nicely that powerplay as a batting group and the other three not so much. That’s one thing that has highlighted with the way we have performed in the games we have lost.

"For us, it’s not our strength at the moment. We have to be upping those numbers quickly. But we know that we have to continue to be positive. Try and apply pressure whenever we can and keep that positive mindset."

Conway further said that he is delighted to be part of the CSK camp, but was disappointed not to get the opportunity in the first few matches. He stated:

"It’s great to be a part of the group. It’s unfortunate to be missing the first few games. But as a batter, you have to make sure that you are always ready. Get in those practice sessions. If you get that opportunity, make sure that you grab it with both hands.""
