MI Cape Town's Dewald Brevis pulled off a spectacular catch to dismiss Sunrisers Eastern Cape batter Tom Abell in the 25th match of the 2025 SA20. Dewald Brevis took the catch at the edge of the boundary ropes, leaving both the spectators and the Sunrisers players in awe, as it was a never-before-seen moment.

The 2025 season has been challenging for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, as they continue to underperform. In the recent match, their batters were dismissed early, leaving them struggling to set a competitive total. MI Cape Town dominated the game, with their bowlers putting pressure on the Sunrisers.

Dewald Brevis' Brilliance In The Field Stole The Show

On the last ball of the fourth over, right-arm pacer Corbin Bosch bowled a short delivery, and Tom Abell attempted to pull, but the shot lacked the power to clear the deep backward square boundary. Dewald Brevis, who was standing at the boundary line, initially misjudged the trajectory but quickly reacted.

Brevis leaped backward and extended his hands to catch the ball just before it crossed the boundary. He perfectly controlled his body to ensure he stayed inside the rope, securing the dismissal. The crowd at Newlands was in awe as the fielder executed the catch with one hand near the boundary line.

Abell's brief stay ended with just one run, leaving Eastern Cape struggling at 20/2. Bosch celebrated his first wicket, but it was Brevis' brilliance that stole the show. Social media erupted with praise for Brevis' remarkable catch, drawing comparisons to his previous stunning catches earlier in the season.

Fielding Is Very Important, Especially In This Format - Rashid Khan

MI Cape Town secured a dominant 10-wicket win, with Bosch (4 for 19) and Kagiso Rabada (2 for 14) leading the bowling attack. Openers Ryan Rickelton (59* off 36 balls) and Rassie van der Dussen (48* off 30 balls) guided the team to victory while chasing a target of 108 runs, ensuring their maiden playoff spot.

MICT captain Rashid Khan emphasized the importance of fielding in the format, adding that the team's excellent ground fielding played a key role in their win. He also expressed delight in finishing in the top two.

“(Fielding) is very important especially in this format," said Rashid, after the match. "Today, before the game, we had the discussion to keep the continuity. I feel like the effort you put in fielding is very important. Fielding put us ahead in the game. Ground fielding was amazing. It was important to finish with the bonus point and in top two."
