The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batter reached the landmark with a boundary off Roston Chase, sending the ball racing past mid-on to bring up his maiden Test century. As the ball crossed the ropes, Jurel’s wide smile showed just how much the milestone meant to him.

Jurel first raised his bat high, then shifted it to his left hand in a quirky gesture that left even one and all wondering what it meant, but the pride was clear in his eyes. His unique celebration was a heart-melting tribute to his Kargil war veteran father, and it has now gone viral on social media.

Ravindra Jadeja, who was standing at the non-striker’s end, clapped enthusiastically as he congratulated the young batter on reaching the landmark. On the other hand, the Indian dressing room and dugout clapped for Jurel for making the most of the opportunity on a big stage.

Earlier this year, Jurel had fallen painfully short of a hundred against England at home. But this time, the Indian wicketkeeper didn’t let the chance slip away. He batted with a mix of patience and boldness, using his strong bottom-hand play to take on the West Indies bowlers, and got that ton.

India achieves rare milestone in Test cricket

In 2025, India achieved a rare milestone, with three or more batters scoring centuries in the same Test innings for the fourth time in a calendar year. The previous instances were in 1979, 1986, and 2007. Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant all scored centuries against England in Leeds.

Later, again, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar reached three figures against England in Manchester. And now, KL Rahul, Jurel, and Jadeja scored centuries against the West Indies in Ahmedabad.
