With Rishabh Pant battling with a finger injury, Dhruv Jurel has stepped in as the substitute wicketkeeper, but things haven’t gone smoothly behind the stumps for India in the ongoing third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Lord’s.
India has already conceded 25 runs in byes in England’s second innings by tea, raising eyebrows over the stand-in wicketkeeper’s, Dhruv Jurel’s, performance. However, the several deliveries were swinging wildly and bouncing awkwardly, leaving even Jurel’s full-stretch dives helpless.
Dhruv Jurel under fire for wicketkeeping struggles at Lord’s
The young wicketkeeper faced troubles because of the Indian bowlers missing their lines and the pitch misbehaving as well. After lunch, Jurel dropped a catch off Joe Root, a ball that should have been taken comfortably. Luckily for India, the delivery was ruled a no-ball. But it did little to ease the nerves in the Indian camp, especially as England kept building their lead at Lord’s.

On a few occasions, Jurel also struggled to collect balls cleanly when Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj went full throttle. The frustration was clear in the Indian camp over the youngster’s poor job behind the stumps against England in the ongoing third Test at Lord’s.
Did Dhruv Jurel’s misses cost him team’s trust?
Even the camera caught the Indian players ignoring Dhruv Jurel during the celebration after the successful review by Mohammed Siraj for Ollie Pope on Day 4 at Lord’s. The incident unfolded in the 12th over when Siraj silenced the Lord’s crowd with a stunning delivery that sent Pope back to the pavilion for just 4 runs.
Bowling a sharp delivery that nipped back in, the Indian pacer beat Pope’s bat and struck him right in front of the stumps. Pope looked unsure with his footwork and got stuck on the crease, neither going forward nor back. The on-field umpire signalled for not out.

But the Indian captain, Shubman Gill, didn’t hesitate to go for the DRS review after Siraj’s confident appeal. Moments later, the screen showed all three reds, confirming that the ball was crashing into the top of the leg stump. The Indian players erupted with joy, and Siraj roared in celebration as Pope was trapped LBW in the crucial phase of the ongoing Test match at Lord’s.
Just as the Indian players began celebrating, Jurel went to his teammates for a high-five, but everyone ignored him. Even KL Rahul gave the youngster a cold reaction, completely ignoring the substitute wicketkeeper. Many have found it funny, while some felt his poor wicketkeeping irked the Indian players. Now, the clip of the moment is going viral on social media.

Meanwhile, India now needs 135 runs, and they have 6 wickets in hand to script history at Lord’s against England in the ongoing third Test. They have already lost their four key batters, and now all their hopes rest on KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who is struggling with a finger injury, to take them over the line. The in-form Ravindra Jadeja must also step up to help India take a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.
