The back story of the Digvesh Rathi vs Priyansh Arya rivalry
He still surfaced on social media platforms because of Digvesh Rathi. The rivalry between Rathi and Priyansh is nothing new among Indian cricket fans.
During a Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants match in an Indian Premier League season, Priyansh Arya went furious when Digvesh Rathi celebrated wildly after dismissing him. In the IPL 2025 season, Rathi gave Arya an aggressive "notebook" send-off after dismissing him, which attracted a BCCI penalty for the leg-spinner.
The incident caused widespread controversy among the cricket experts. Despite all the talk and controversies, the spinner can't separate himself from his trademark celebration.
Digvesh Rathi explained his notebook celebration
Later, after the match, Rathi was asked to explain his aggressive celebration. Traditionally, fast bowlers are mostly known for celebrating with more expressions compared to spinners. Rathi is a different kind of spinner who celebrates like a pacer.
"I am in the limelight because of my celebration," Digvesh Rathi once told the media.
On the dismissal of Priyansh Arya in the IPL 2025 match, the spinner claimed that he shared a good bond with Priyansh Arya. They walked into the match with their respective teams to take on each other.
"Priyansh and I are good friends. We had made a pact after talking to each other. He said that if I hit runs, I would do this, and I said I would do this if I succeed against him. I just wrote his name in my notebook," Rathi claimed.
The rivalry, which took the spotlight first in IPL 2025, continues in the Delhi Premier League as well. Last night, when Arya was out off a Digvesh Rathi delivery, the Purani Delhi 6 spinner came close to the dismissed batter, and to provoke him, he did the notebook celebration right in front of the batter's eyes.
Arya's form has not been up to the mark so far in the season, so the batter remained silent and managed to endure the provoking gestures of Rathi. However, Rathi's Purani Delhi 6 could not win the match at the end of the day.
