Former Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne was clean bowled after a forgettable leave off Todd Murphy's bowling during the ongoing first Test against Australia. Dimuth Karunaratne continued his lean patch with the bat in the format, getting out for zero off four balls to leave the home team reeling at 6/2.
Sri Lanka resumed their innings at 5-136, but Australian spinners Matthew Kuhnmann and Nathan Lyon quickly dismantled the lower order. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 165, after losing 5 wickets for just 9 runs in a dramatic collapse. Australia took a massive 489-run lead, their fourth-highest in Test history.

Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc dismissed Oshada Fernando LBW after the batter wasted a review and was dismissed for just 6 in the second innings. Todd Murphy claimed his first wicket of the match by dismissing Dimuth Karunaratne for a duck.
The dismissal came in the fourth over of Sri Lanka's second innings. Murphy bowled a delivery that drifted back into the left-handed batter. The ball pitched outside off, but it moved back in, hitting the stumps after Dimuth Karunaratne misjudged the delivery.
7Cricket took to social media X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a clip of the dismissal, with the caption, "They say there are two types of leaves... No prizes for guessing which category this Karunaratne one falls into #SLvAUS."

Dimuth Karunaratne, who was dismissed for seven runs by Mitchell Starc in the first innings, has been struggling for runs. He scored five half-centuries in 2024 but hasn’t registered a century since April 2023. If Pathum Nissanka recovers in time for the second Test, Karunaratne may lose his spot at the top of the order.
Matthew Kuhnemann Secured Five-Wicket Haul as Sri Lanka Bowled Out for 165
Sri Lanka's hopes of a draw from the jaws of defeat rested heavily on Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis. However, Mendis was dismissed for 21 after top-edging a sweep shot to Todd Murphy at square leg. Chandimal, who scored 72 runs, was dismissed after missing a reverse sweep against Lyon.
Prabath Jayasuriya was stumped for a duck after charging at Kuhnemann, and Nishan Peiris was caught at short leg off Lyon. Kuhnemann completed his five-wicket haul when tailender Jeffrey Vandersay miscued a slog to Mitchell Starc at cover. The hosts managed to score just 165 runs in the first innings.
Australia Declared First Innings at 654/6 in Galle
Sri Lanka lost both openers within the first four overs in their second innings. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews then built a 69-run partnership for the third wicket to stabilize the innings. Lyon made a breakthrough on the final delivery of the morning session, with a successful review by Steve Smith.
Earlier, Australia dominated with the bat in Galle, declaring their innings at 654/6. Usman Khawaja led the charge with a massive 232, supported by Steve Smith (141) and debutant Josh Inglis, who scored 102.
