Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has recently taunted Ravi Shastri right in front of the former Indian head coach while talking about how his Test career ended.

Dinesh Karthik pointed out how his exit was very different from others, like former England captain Nasser Hussain, who got a more respectful farewell and respect from his then-coach.

Speaking on the public podcast, Karthik recalled how, after a forgettable outing at Lord’s during the 2018 England tour, Shastri bluntly told him that he was “done” and shouldn’t “bother coming back,” with no second chances, just a full stop on his Test dreams.

Dinesh Karthik recalls how Ravi Shastri ended his Test career!!

Notably, Karthik returned to India’s Test team in June 2018 when regular wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was injured.

He played in the Test match against Afghanistan and was eventually picked for the England tour because he had been doing really well in domestic cricket and white-ball games.

The former Indian wicketkeeper-batter travelled to England with hope, but the summer had other plans. The pitches in England were green and swinging, and Karthik could score only 0 and 20 in the first Test at Edgbaston and just 1 and 0 in the next Test at Lord’s.

These poor scores ended up costing him his place in the team, and his Lord’s outing turned out to be his last game for whites for India, as Rishabh Pant, on the back of his aggressive strokeplay and IPL form, replaced Karthik. However, Pant was not that impressive behind the stumps, but his fearless batting made waves instantly.

Dinesh Karthik said on the Sky Sports Podcast, where he sat alongside Ravi Shastri, Hussain, and Michael Atherton: “The first thing is, I feel there’s not much in common between me and Nas (Hussain), and I’d like to keep it that way.

But sadly, he finished in Lord’s, and I finished in Lord’s, the only difference being he went and knocked on the coach’s door, saying, ‘I think I am done.’ In my case, the coach came and said, ‘Don’t bother coming for the next test; I think you are done’.”

Meanwhile, after Dinesh Karthik’s playful jab, Ravi Shastri fired back in classic style to roast the fellow commentator in his style with perfect sarcasm. While talking about India’s new generation of players, the former Indian head coach casually started naming players like Rishabh Pant.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as the others burst into laughter. Shastri said on the podcast, “All these youngsters coming through the ranks, Rishabh Pant—he replaced DK—Shubman Gill…Hardik Pandya…” before bursting into laughter as Michael Atherton interrupted and said, “He could have mentioned a hundred other names.”

With a grin and a quick jab, he hinted that the podcast was turning into a setup just to roast him. Shastri added, “I'm just used as bait in this podcast.” Now, the clip of former Indian cricketers roasting each other is going viral across social media platforms.
