Virat Kohli reunited with his former teammates AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle after Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday (June 3).
The Bengaluru-based outfit beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs to clinch its maiden IPL title in 18 years. Asked to bat first, RCB were off to a shaky start. While Phil Salt hit a flurry of boundaries, he did not last long and was out for 16 runs in the second over.

Kohli then shared crucial stands with the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Rajat Patidar, and Liam Livingstone, but none of the RCB batters managed to capitalise on the start. In the end, Kohli was the top scorer for RCB, scoring 43 runs off 35 balls, including 3 fours.
Agarwal scored 24, Patidar scored 26 while Livingstone scored 25. Jitesh Sharma looked in fine form but he could not stay till the end either and was out for 24 runs off 10 balls. RCB eventually finished their innings on 190/9.
In reply, Punjab Kings scored 184/7. Shashank Singh waged a lone battle and scored an unbeaten 61 off 30 balls, but his efforts were not enough to take his team over the line.
Virat Kohli reunites with former teammates:
Before winning the latest IPL final, RCB had played three finals but ended up losing all of them. While Virat Kohli played in all three finals, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle played in two of them. RCB had one of the most explosive batting lineups in the league when Kohli, Gayle, and de Villiers played together, but just could not go all the way.
After losing the final thrice, RCB finally won the title-decider in the fourth attempt. Virat Kohli looked emotional and was in tears after the win and the moment became even more special for him as he celebrated the win with Gayle and de Villiers.
"You know, for me, why it's so special to is share it with these two is because I've shared my prime years with them," said Kohli with Gayle and de Villiers standing on his either side.
"And I know how much we tried to win this. And we felt we were so close a couple of times [in 2011 and 2016]. And we were such a good team. And we had that explosiveness in our team. But we could never cross the line.
"And all of us have that hurt because we gave our prime years to this franchise. And we really, really, from the bottom of our heart, we wanted to win that title for RCB. And I promise you, this feels like 10 times more special just because of the fact that these two are standing next to us," he added.
