The 24-year-old Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) leg-spinner Georgia Wareham left the 31-year-old Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt stunned in the Eliminator of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Friday, March 15, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Nat Sciver-Brunt has not been able to perform to her best in the ongoing edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She was the top performer for Mumbai Indians Women with the bat in the inaugural season as she scored 332 runs in 10 matches at an amazing average of 66.4 and a great strike rate of 140.08.
However, in WPL 2024, Sciver-Brunt is yet to score a half-century. She has been consistently getting off to good starts in the matches, but unfortunately the all-round great hasn’t been able to convert those starts into big scores. Her best score heading into the WPL 2024 Eliminator was 45, which came against UP Warriorz.
Many expected her to step up big time in the Women’s Premier League Eliminator, but she once again disappointed with her performance. She just contributed 23 runs off 17 balls, with 4 fours, before taking a long walk back to the pavilion.
On the 4th ball of the 11th over, Wareham bowled a flatter delivery and the Mumbai Indians Women’s batter went back to work it towards leg-side. However, the batter failed to make any connection with the ball and saw her stumps getting rattled.

In the end, the Mumbai Indians Women failed to complete the run-chase of 136 runs and were restricted to 130/6. They lost the match by 5 runs to get knocked out of the competition. Now, the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women will face Delhi Capitals Women in the final of the WPL 2024 on March 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Speaking after the match, Georgia Wareham, who played a key role in her team’s win, said that they were trying to fight till the very end. She said:
“Not really sure, we fought through the end, every time we got together, we spoke about fighting till the end. [on Devine opening tonight] I have no idea, it worked out for us at the end of the day. Smriti and Sophie Devine were the ones who were trying to keep us calm and it was really cool from them.”
While speaking about her last ball six that changed the match, Georgia Wareham said that she used all her power in the stroke. She said:
“[on her last-ball six] Swung as hard as I possibly could, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t, luckily it did tonight. [on if she can be called an allrounder] Not sure about that, I try to have an impact on the game, whether it is about 10 balls or anything.”
She further showered rich praise on the all-rounder Ellyse Perry for her heroics. She elaborated:
“Perry’s experience kept the innings going tonight and gave us something to defend. The other night she did it with the ball. She impacts the game in all facets of the game. To have someone like that on your team is invaluable and it’s lucky we have her at RCB. It’s hard to hear and it’s cool to hear the RCB chants and the crowd yelling out Smriti and Perry’s names is really cool and hopefully we can go one better and win on Sunday.”
