Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, on Friday (April 5), led from the very front as he starred with the ball against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The India allrounder picked up a 5-wicket haul for the first time in his IPL career. His previous best bowling figures in the IPL were 3/17 that he picked as the captain of Gujarat Titans against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 final.

Hardik Pandya made an instant impact against LSG as he dismissed the dangerous Nicholas Pooran in his very first over. In his second over, Pandya dismissed his LSG counterpart Rishabh Pant to put Mumbai Indians in the driver's seat.

He then bowled the 18th over of the LSG innings and picked up the wicket of a well-set Aiden Markram, dismissing the LSG opener for 53. In the final over of the innings, Pandya dismissed David Miller and Akash Deep on successive deliveries to complete a brilliant five-wicket haul.

He finished the innings with figures of 5/36. Even though Pandya picked up 5 wickets in the game, Mumbai Indians could not stop LSG from posting a 200-plus total. The hosts finished their innings on 203/8. Mitchell Marsh and Markram scored half-centuries for the Lucknow-based outfit.

Hardik Pandya creates history:

Hardik Pandya created history with his five-wicket haul as he became the first-ever player to take five wickets in an IPL match as a captain. He also became the first IPL captain since 2015 to take four or more wickets in a match.

The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain picked up 4 wickets for 16 runs against now-defunct Deccan Chargers in 2009 before replicating the feat against the same team in 2010. The other players to take 4 wickets in a match as an IPL captain are Shane Warne and JP Duminy.
