With so much at stake, deciding whether to bat or bowl first is no easy task. And ahead of the game, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav devised a playful way to settle the dilemma. Just before the toss, Hardik Pandya was seen having an intense discussion with the Mumbai Indians coaches, with Suryakumar standing beside him.
As the Mumbai Indians skipper began to walk away, he was stopped by Suryakumar. The India T20I captain then held out two fingers and asked Hardik to pick one. As soon as Hardik made his choice, Suryakumar seemingly told him, 'bat first'.

Hardik Pandya & Co. to bat first:
Even though Hardik Pandya lost the toss, Mumbai Indians will be batting first in the must-win clash. Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. Speaking at toss, Hardik also revealed that the Mumbai Indians team management was unsure about what to do, and that perfectly explains the light-hearted moment between him and Suryakumar.
"Looks like a good track, let's see. It is a good toss to lose; we were not sure what to do. We didn't mind either batting or bowling. We will put some runs and defend it.
"For us to be in this situation lot of results had to go our way, five days back we were not in this position and today we are, but being honest last 8-9 games have been like knockouts for us. Just one change - Ashwani Kumar comes in," said Hardik Pandya.
Mumbai Indians are coming into this game on the back of a stunning 59-run win over Delhi Capitals and will be confident of winning against Punjab as well. On the other hand, Punjab also faced Delhi in their last game but lost it by 6 wickets even after scoring 206 runs. Punjab will be looking to bounce back and register a crucial win to seal their place in the top two.
