Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team skipper Chamari Athapaththu gave a horrible time to India's Women's National Cricket Team in the ongoing final of the Asia Cup 2024. The summit clash of the tournament between the teams is underway at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.
After India posted a total of 163 runs on the board, Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu made sure that she took her team to a flying start. The opening batter continued her golden touch with the bat and didn't put a foot wrong in her innings, putting the opposition under pressure.
Even though Sri Lanka lost Vishmi Gunaratne early, Chamari Athapaththu looked unfazed by it as she took the attack to India bowlers and slammed them all over the park. She kept her team in the hunt as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had no answers to the onslaught by the Sri Lanka skipper.
Chamari Athapaththu slammed a vital half-century, and with the way she was batting, she seemed to be taking her team to the win quickly. But her stay at the crease was cut short by Deepti Sharma. The India all-rounder removed her in the 12th over as he castled her stumps.
Deepti Sharma bowled a full and quick ball down the leg which Chamari Athapaththu shaped for the sweep. But she had to adjust as she tried to whip it across but missed hearing the death rattle behind. This silenced the crowd as their skipper departed.
But what caught the attention of many was the reaction of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. She got pumped up as Deepti Sharma removed Chamari Athapaththu and celebrated aggressively.
