Harry Brook falls for 99

Brook batted exceptionally well in the Test series opener at Headingley in Leeds, and he made the most of the lifelines he was given by the India National Cricket Team.

The right-handed batsman played an attacking brand of cricket, and he also took on the world's best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, with great intent and multiple times charged down the track to hit him for boundaries.

Brook looked all set to complete a century in the match, but he agonizingly fell short of the feat and got dismissed in the 88th over.

On the third ball of the 88th over, pacer Prasidh Krishna bowled a short ball to Brook on leg stump, and the Englishman went for a hook shot.

Harry Brook was not in full control while playing the shot, and the ball flew all the way down to Shardul Thakur at long-on, with the all-rounder completing an easy catch and handing a heartbreak to Brook.

The England batter looked absolutely devastated after getting out for 99 runs off 112 balls, and he hung his head back in agony and covered his face before walking back to the hut in disappointment.

He can’t believe it - Ravi Shastri

Talking about Brook's dismissal, while speaking on Sky Sports, former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri highlighted how the batter was shocked after getting out, and the former wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik opined that the young Englishman got a little nervous.

“He can’t believe it. Can you believe it? A superb innings comes to an end," Ravi Shastri said.

"This knock was laced with some beautiful shots but nerves perhaps got the better of him," Dinesh Karthik said.

Talking more about Brook's sensational innings, Ravi Shastri said that the batter displayed audacious batting, and if he continues batting the same way, he will hit a double century in the next few innings. He said:

"Brook picks up length so well and likes to announce himself to the opposition early. He plays with audacity as well. He won't be too disappointed getting out caught at deep fine leg as on another day he will score 200 batting like that."

Meanwhile, Mark Butcher talked about India's second innings and said that they would want to score and predicted that the Leeds Test will end up being a nail-biter. He stated:

"India will want big runs on the board before the final innings because despite the fact there may be turn, it is unbelievably difficult to stop people from scoring round at this ground. Whatever happens we are in for an absolute treat. Another thriller at Leeds.”
