England National Cricket Team white-ball captain Harry Brook tried to get under the skin of the India National Cricket Team Test captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant during the second Test.

Harry Brook was seen sledging India National Cricket Team batters Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant during Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday, July 5.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant piled on misery on England

Gill and Pant frustrated the English team with their terrific batting performances on Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test. They batted with a great intent to put the England bowlers under pressure, and Ben Stokes had no answers to their onslaught.

Stokes tried all his bowling options to dismiss, but nothing worked, and the duo built a century stand by scoring runs at a great strike rate.

Looking at Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant going great guns, Harry Brook tried a cheeky move to distract the batters and get under their skin.

Harry Brook first sledged Gill with a Day 5 rain threat warning, asking the Indian skipper to declare with the lead at 450.

“450 declare? Shubman, it’s raining tomorrow. Half day. Afternoon, it’s raining," Brook was heard saying to the Indian skipper, who replied, "Bad luck for us." Brook further said, "Take the draw".

After failing to trouble Gill, Brook moved his target and tried to sledge Pant. He tried to distract the Indian Test vice-captain by challenging him to a quickfire ton, but the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman shut him down with a savage reply.

Here's how the conversation unfolded:

Harry Brook: What's your fastest hundred?

Rishabh Pant: Test cricket? 80-90 mins

Brook: The fastest I have done is 55 balls. You could've done that today.

Pant: It's okay. Not very greedy for records, if it happens, it happens.

India want to make sure England are completely and utterly out - Mark Butcher

As India continued batting despite having a colossal lead, the former England player Mark Butcher was left frustrated. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said:

"India have lost a bit of a window but it is a legacy, a tribute, to the fear Stokes and England put into teams when setting fourth-innings targets.

"India want to make sure England are completely and utterly out of it and then you ask a team reticent to draw games whether they can do it. Can a team not renowned for defending and seeing out games do that? The conditions say you should be able to."

Mark Butcher also questioned India's tactics of not scoring quick runs on the fourth day. He elaborated:

"India could have given themselves more time to win the game by scoring faster. They did that while Pant was at the crease but not afterwards.Whether that turns out to be the right thing to do, we will find out tomorrow, but for now it is a little bit baffling.

"At one stage it looked they were racing towards 500-plus and now they have stalled. All that has done is take time away. This pitch is still unbelievably good for batting, if not for cricket."
