Jake Fraser-McGurk put Melbourne Renegades in a strong position during their must-win match against Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 season. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk fell just short of a well-deserved century as Matt Renshaw took a sensational catch at long-off in the recent match.
After a rough season, the young sensation played a sensational knock for the Renegades while chasing 197 against the Heat. The 22-year-old came to the crease at 22-1 and quickly dominated the experienced Heat bowling attack. He cleared the boundary on several occasions and reached a half-century.

The young batter came close to becoming only the second player in Melbourne Renegades history to score a Big Bash century. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk fell for 95 off 46 balls, featuring five fours and eight sixes.
The right-handed batter was dismissed by Xavier Bartlett as Matt Renshaw pulled off a spectacular catch at long-off. Renshaw sprinted to his right and completed an overhead grab, ensuring he didn’t slide onto the ropes. It was a brilliant display of fielding that kept Brisbane Heat in the contest.
The Big Bash League's official account on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a clip of Jake Fraser-McGurk's dismissal with the caption, "You cannot be serious! Jake Fraser-McGurk came THIS CLOSE to a maiden BBL century 😱 #BBL14".

The Renegades successfully chased down the target of 197 with two overs to spare, moving off the bottom of the BBL table. This victory improved their net run rate to positive, keeping their hopes of a miraculous finals appearance alive.
Earlier, Jack Wood, who scored 45 off 27 balls, was the top scorer for the Heat. Matt Renshaw, who hit 40 off 22 balls, including three consecutive sixes off Sutherland, and Tom Alsop also contributed with a quickfire 42 off 26 balls.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, the Player of the Match, expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, adding that everyone contributed to the victory. Fraser-McGurk noted that cricket can be unpredictable. He hoped the team could continue performing well, and qualify further, and thanked the fans for their support.
"Happy with the way we turned up today. Everyone contributed today and hopefully a few results go our way. I just wanted to get off to a start, give the bowlers a charge early," Fraser-McGurk said.
"Cricket is a game where you can have a terrible day but you are always just two shots away from turning things around. Hopefully we can qualify further, thanks to the fans for turning up today. Hopefully, we can keep performing for them this season," he added.
Melbourne Renegades played all their 10 league stage matches in the ongoing tournament. The Renegades are currently in fourth place with eight points after four wins in 10 matches.
