South Africa players were left disheartened after their crushing 9-wicket defeat to India in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 final match on Sunday, February 2. Several South African cricketers broke down in tears as they struggled to cope with the disappointment of missing out on the title.

South Africa opted to bat first in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 final against India at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. The Proteas managed to score just 82 runs in the allotted 20 overs. G. Trisha picked up three wickets, while Aayushi Shukla, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Parunika Sisodia each took two wickets.

India Chases Down 83-Run Target in 11.2 Overs with Ease

India easily chased down the target of 83 runs in 11.2 overs, losing just one wicket. Gongadi Trisha, who had taken 3/15 with the ball, top-scored with 44 runs off 33 deliveries. Sanika Chalke sealed the victory with a boundary on the second ball of the 12th over, finishing unbeaten on 26 runs from 22 balls.

The Indian women's team completed the chase with 52 balls to spare, becoming the first team to win the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup without losing a game. Both India and South Africa entered the final with perfect records, but the Women in Blue successfully defended their U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title.

As India scored the final run, the entire squad celebrated their victory by sprinting onto the field, wrapped in the national flag. Meanwhile, the South African players struggled to control their emotions, with many breaking down in tears after their defeat in the final match.

South Africa’s Captain Kayla Reyneke said - “I’m sorry mamma and papa. And I’m sorry to South Africa”. (Emotional Kayla saying this).

Gongadi Trisha was named both the Player of the Match in the final and the Player of the Tournament at the 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. She scored 309 runs, finishing as the tournament's highest run-scorer. Trisha also contributed with the ball by taking seven wickets in seven matches.

Vaishnavi Shukla, who is also from India, was the top wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets in six matches. She also achieved a hat-trick and registered remarkable figures of 5/5 in her opening match.

The defending champions won all their group-stage matches against the West Indies, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. Their winning streak continued in the Super Six stage with victories over Bangladesh and Scotland. In the semi-final, India produced a dominant performance against England.

"I've dreamt of this moment for the past two years, and I can't believe I hit the winning runs -- it's truly surreal. My teammates' support made all the difference, and this moment is one I'll cherish forever," said Sanika after the match.
