ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Massive security breach in Bangladesh vs New Zealand match

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. The Kiwi bowlers kept things tight throughout the match and didn't let the Bangladesh batters dominate at any point in time.

Michael Bracewell shined with a 4-wicket haul, while the rest of the bowlers provided him with good support as New Zealand restricted Bangladesh to 236/9. For Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top performer as he scored 77 runs.

Meanwhile, during the second innings of the match, when New Zealand were batting, a shocking incident unfolded. After the 27th over of the innings, a fan breached the security to enter the area of play.

He was seen running across the ground and two security officials were seen chasing him. The camera never panned towards the pitch invader, so it is unclear if he breached the security to meet a player or had some other intentions.

Seeing the officials chase the pitch invader, the star New Zealand batter Tom Latham was surprised. He then went on to have a discussion with Rachin Ravindra while looking at the incident happening on the ground.

It looks a good surface and hopefully, it gets better under lights - Mitchell Santner

Speaking earlier at the toss, the Black Caps captain Mitchell Santner spoke about the inclusion of Kyle Jamieson and Rachin Ravindra in the playing XI in place of Nathan Smith and Daryl Mitchell. Mitchell Santner was also hopeful of the batting getting easier under lights and that exactly happened.

"We are gonna bowl. It looks a good surface and hopefully, it gets better under lights. We have got two changes. Kyle Jamieson comes in place of Nathan Smith. Unfortunately, Daryl Mitchell is unwell and Rachin Ravindra replaces him," he said.

"It's good to spend some time in the subcontinent before the big tournament. Always good in the lead up to the tournament to get used to the conditions. We had the belief in him (Tom Latham).

"He is a class player and plays a crucial role for us in the middle overs.Yeah, it will be nice. But Bangladesh are a good side, especially in these conditions, and we have to play well today."

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto also spoke about the inclusion of Mahmudullah and Nahid Rana in the side in place of Soumya Sarkar and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. He also lauded the young pacer Nahid Rana, saying that he's an exciting talent.

"I would have bowled first as well but it looks a pretty good wicket. Batting will not be an issue. We have made two changes. Mahmudullah Riyad & Nahid Rana back into the side in place of Soumya and Sakib," he said.

"(On Nahid Rana) Yes, a very exciting prospect. The way he has bowled in the last few years has been amazing. Very happy with the way he has bowled so far. Yes obviously, the way we batted in the middle overs versus India, that has given us a lot of confidence. We need to bat well with the new ball."
