The India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson faced humiliation as he fell to short ball for the fifth consecutive time in the ongoing T20I series against the England National Cricket Team.
Sanju Samson's latest dismissal against short ball happened in the fifth and final T20I of the series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, February 02.
Sanju Samson fails to deliver in 5th T20I
Samson started off his innings on a positive note as he smashed a six on the first ball of the over, which was bowled by Jofra Archer. With this, Sanju Samson became the third Indian after Rohit Sharma off Adil Rashid and Yashasvi Jaiswal off Sikandar Raza to hit the first ball of a T20I innings for a six.
The wicketkeeper-batsman, however, failed to capitalize on his start and got dismissed after scoring just 16 runs off 7 balls.
On the fifth ball of the 2nd over, Mark Wood bowled a short ball around the middle and leg to Sanju Samson. The Indian batter pulled it straight to the fielder at deep square leg as he got cramped for room and couldn't get enough elevation, and the ball went straight into the hands of Jofra Archer near the boundary.
Notably, Samson has been failing to score runs against quality pacers and his weakness against bouncers has been totally exposed.
In the first three matches of the series, he was dismissed by Jofra Archer by short balls and the same trend continued in the fourth T20I as Saqib Mahmood cleaned him up. Overall, Samson registered scores of 26, 5, 3, 1, and 16 in five matches against England.
What happened in the previous T20I between India and England?
In the 4th T20I between India and England on January 31, the Men In Blue won by 15 runs, sealing the series win. Batting first, India posted 181/9 on the board, despite early setbacks.
After a poor start at 12/3, Shivam Dube (53 off 34 balls) and Hardik Pandya (53 off 30 balls) steadied the ship with their explosive batting performances and helped their side register a challenging total.
In the second innings, England’s chase started strongly, and they won the batting powerplay as well, with Ben Duckett (39 off 19 balls) and Phil Salt (23 off 21 balls) making solid contributions.
However, England's chase got off the track with the introduction of Indian spinners. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Duckett and Jos Buttler, while Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana also claimed key wickets.
The addition of Harshit Rana to India's playing XI as a concussion substitute proved great for the hosts and a nightmare for the visitors as he bagged three wickets. After a brilliance from the top-order batter, England kept losing wickets at regular intervals and they were all out for 166 in 19.4 overs.
