Team India players were left disappointed after being denied Amelia Kerr's wicket during the game against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

The controversial incident took place on the final ball of the 14th over. Deepti Sharma's delivery was hit towards the long-off by Amelia Kerr. She and her partner Sophie Devine completed the first run with ease.

They had no intention of taking the second run but decided to change their minds when they saw India captain Harmanpreet Kaur had not thrown the ball from long-off.

Amelia Kerr took off immediately for the second run and Devine duly obliged. In the meantime, Harmanpreet Kaur saw the New Zealand batters going for the second run and threw the ball towards the striker's end. The Wicketkeeper took off the bails in a flash and caught Amelia Kerr short of her crease.

The Indian players started celebrating the wicket as Kerr was walking back towards the dugout. However, the Indian team's happiness turned into despair as soon as the fourth umpire stopped Kerr from leaving the field. The official then went on to rule it a deadball.

The Indian team was not at all impressed with the call and did not shy away from venting its frustration. Harmanpreet Kaur was seen having an animated discussion with both the umpires who were telling her that the ball was dead.

Head coach Amol Muzumdar was visibly furious too. He and the fourth umpire were also having an animated conversation near the boundary as the play was held up for a few minutes. Harmanpreet also joined the discussion on the sidelines but it did not make much difference. In the end, it was adjudged a dead ball and Kerr was allowed to continue.
