West Indies bowler Jayden Seales walked off the field on Day 2 (Friday, October 3) of the first Test against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The right-arm pacer bowled only three overs in his second spell of the day, while the other bowlers continued to struggle for wickets against the Indian batters.

Seales created an opportunity in the first over of the day. Rahul, who resumed on 53, edged the ball, but it flew between slip and wicketkeeper. The West Indies’ defensive setup, with only one slip in place, backfired as Rahul capitalized on the chance and went on to register his second Test century at home.

In a video uploaded by a user on social media, Jayden Seales was seen walking off the field during the 89th over of India’s first innings. Notably, the West Indies had not taken the second new ball despite it being available. Seales was brought back in the 79th over, just before the new ball became available.

West Indies’ Decision to Bat First Backfired on Day 1

West Indies’ decision to bat first backfired as they folded for just 162 in 44.1 overs on Day 1. Mohammed Siraj spearheaded India’s attack with four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with three.

In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul provided a solid 68-run opening stand before Jaiswal departed for 36. Sai Sudharsan perished for a low score, but Rahul brought up a half-century. India closed the first day on 121/2, with Shubman Gill unbeaten on 18.

Rahul and Gill added a 98-run partnership for the third wicket. Gill scored 50 runs from 100 deliveries before Roston Chase removed him. Rahul went on to notch up his 11th Test hundred, reaching 100 from 197 balls.

At the time of writing, India were 357/4 after 109 overs, leading by 194 runs, with Dhruv Jurel (83) and Ravindra Jadeja (66) at the crease.

How Opinions Change After Scoring in Few Innings - KL Rahul

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif came to KL Rahul’s defense following the batter’s 11th Test century. Rahul had faced significant criticism in 2023 after a disappointing IPL 2022 campaign.

Kaif, a member of India’s 2002 Champions Trophy-winning squad, praised Rahul’s resilience. The former forermbatter stated that his success comes from belief and hard work. Kaif noted how quickly critics can turn into admirers after a strong performance.

"How opinions change after scoring in few innings.. Now his critics say there is no one like him. Remember: KL Rahul strength is his belief and hard work. That's what makes him rise after every fall and perform despite the pressure," Mohammad Kaif wrote on 'X' (formerly known as Twitter).
