Watch - Joe Root Bizarrely Gets Bowled Through His Legs

Joe Root couldn’t convert the start he got in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against the Netherlands. The 40th match of the tournament is taking place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and it’s an extremely crucial game for both the teams in the context of Champions Trophy 2025. 

England won the toss and opted to bat first. They lost Jonny Bairstow (15) early but after that, Joe Root along with Dawid Malan steadied the innings. It was expected that the duo would take a team to the big score because they batted beautifully and played tremendous strokes. 

Joe Root however perished and the partnership between the two was broken. The batter was dismissed against Logan Van Beek. The pacer bowled a length ball to which the batter tried to play the reverse scoop. He got into an awkward position and failed to make contact. 

The ball went between Joe Root’s legs to crash the stumps. The wicket came against the run of play and the Dutch side was extremely joyant. Here’s the video of the dismissal:

Joe Root perished after scoring 28 runs off 35 balls. He hasn’t been in the great touch in the ICC World Cup 2023. The batter has a series of low scores under his belt. It was a great opportunity for him to get some runs under his belt but unfortunately, he couldn’t cash on. 

ENG vs NED: After Joe Root, Dawid Malan goes back to the hut 

After the wicket of Joe Root, England were jolted with the blow of Dawid Malan. The Southpaw got run out in the very next over after that the batting side came under a lot of pressure. Aryan Dutt bowled a tossed-up delivery to which the batter pushed towards cover point. 

Dawid Malan ran immediately for the single but was sent back by Ben Stokes. He fell short of his crease and was run out. The opener looked in staggering touch and was looking set for a big knock. He scored 87 runs off 74 balls.
