Former England skipper Joe Root avoided a collision with Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj on Day 3 (Friday, July 25) of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. While running between the wickets during England’s first innings, the right-handed batter accidentally dislodged Siraj’s WHOOP fitness band.

At the close of Day 2, England were in a dominant position at 225 for 2, with Joe Root (11) and Ollie Pope (20) unbeaten at the crease. Root and Pope resumed their partnership with intent. The pair went on to complete a 50-run stand within the first hour of the morning session, pushing for a first-innings lead.

Joe Root Etched Name in Record Books On Day 3

Joe Root etched his name deeper into cricket history on Day 3, becoming the third-highest run-scorer in Test cricket. He completed the milestone after crossing 31 runs in England’s second innings. Root has overtaken two greats, Rahul Dravid (13,288) and Jacques Kallis (13,289), on the all-time list.

Root now stands behind only Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar in Test runs. Ponting is at the second spot with 13,378 runs, while Tendulkar remains at the top with his tally of 15,921. Root is 90 runs short of surpassing Ponting and moving into second place.

The 33-year-old has been one of the most consistent Test performers in recent years, especially across the last four to five seasons. It’s only a matter of time before he moves past Ponting and continues narrowing the gap to Tendulkar’s all-time record.

India Bowled Out for 358 Runs in First Innings

India began Day 2 in a decent position at 264/4 but lost Ravindra Jadeja early. He was caught at second slip off a sharp delivery from Jofra Archer, who finished with figures of 3/73. Shardul Thakur chipped in with a valuable 41 before being dismissed by Ben Stokes.

The England skipper registered figures of 5/72. Despite carrying an injury, Rishabh Pant came out to bat and registered a half-century that helped India post a total just under 360.

In response, England got off to a flying start. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett dominated the Indian attack with a 166-run stand in just 32 overs. Both batters looked set for centuries but fell short. Crawley edged Ravindra Jadeja to slip for 84, while Duckett was dismissed for 94 off debutant Anshul Kamboj.
